Building Mobility for All: North Carolina’s Statewide Approach to On-Demand Transit

Case Study
2025

Description

North Carolina’s Mobility for Everyone, Everywhere (MEE‑NC) initiative expands transportation access in rural and suburban communities through on‑demand microtransit. Launched by the NCDOT Integrated Mobility Division with federal support, MEE‑NC provides technical assistance, competitive grants, and standardized guidance to help local agencies design flexible transit services that meet community needs. Eleven pilot programs now operate across the state, using software‑enabled models to reduce wait times, increase coverage, and improve access to employment, healthcare, and social services. Early results show rising ridership and positive community feedback, positioning North Carolina as a model for integrating on‑demand transit into statewide mobility planning.
